Hyderabad Police Identifies 12 Fake Doctors, Sajjanar Urges Public Vigilance

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has urged citizens to remain vigilant against fake doctors who endanger lives by offering medical treatment without the required qualifications or expertise.

As part of efforts to protect public health, the city police have stepped up surveillance and action against unqualified practitioners, Sajjanar said, adding that 12 fake doctors have been identified so far and legal action has been initiated against them.

According to the Police Commissioner, several individuals with no recognised medical qualifications or even basic medical knowledge are posing as legitimate doctors and treating unsuspecting patients. These individuals are reportedly prescribing antibiotics, steroids, blood pressure and diabetes medicines, besides administering injections and intravenous fluids indiscriminately.

Sajjanar warned that taking medicines for prolonged periods without proper medical assessment could lead to serious health complications, potentially affecting vital organs such as the lungs, heart and kidneys.

He advised people to exercise caution before seeking treatment at any clinic or hospital. Patients should check whether the establishment displays an official registration certificate issued by the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) at the reception, he said.

People should also verify whether the doctor’s display board carries the practitioner’s name, medical qualifications and Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) registration number.

If there is any doubt about a doctor's credentials, citizens can verify the details through the Doctor Search facility on the Telangana State Medical Council website, using the doctor's name or registration number. Sajjanar also advised patients to seek a second opinion from a qualified medical professional whenever they have concerns about their diagnosis or treatment.

Urging the public to help authorities curb the menace, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner appealed to citizens to immediately report information about suspected fake doctors by dialling 112 or contacting the nearest police station.
