In an effort to promote citizen participation and integrate modern technology and academic expertise into policing, the Hyderabad City Police have launched innovative Internship and Structured Volunteer Engagement programmes. Announcing the initiative, Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the move aims to channel youth talent and professional expertise into strengthening public safety and improving service delivery.

The internship programme has been designed in line with the evolving needs of modern, data-driven policing . It seeks to leverage students’ creativity, analytical thinking, and academic knowledge to support departmental functions and introduce fresh perspectives into policing practices. Students below 25 years of age who are currently pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies are eligible to apply.

Selected interns will be assigned analytical tasks, research projects, and priority-based departmental assignments aligned with operational needs. Through this hands-on exposure, participants will gain firsthand insight into policing systems, governance processes, and public administration. Officials noted that working alongside police personnel will help students understand real-world law enforcement challenges while contributing innovative ideas. Interns who successfully complete the programme will receive an official certificate , enhancing their academic and professional credentials.

Alongside the student internship initiative, the department has invited experienced professionals to join a Structured Volunteering Programme . Individuals with specialized or technical expertise including technology, cybersecurity, legal systems, data analysis, public policy, and process management can contribute to specific technical and process-oriented projects. Their experience is expected to support institutional development, innovation, and operational efficiency within the police system.

The programmes will be coordinated by the SMIT Cell , which will serve as the nodal unit responsible for implementation and monitoring under the direct supervision of the Police Commissioner. Authorities said the initiative reflects a broader shift toward collaborative and community-oriented policing , encouraging public involvement in safety, innovation, and problem-solving.

Detailed eligibility criteria, guidelines, and online application procedures are available on the official Hyderabad City Police website.
