Hyderabad City Police conducted a large-scale vehicle inspection drive under the banner of “Operation Kavach” on Thursday night, checking more than 12,000 vehicles across the city and taking action against motorists found violating registration and documentation norms.
City Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar said the special operation was aimed at strengthening public safety and maintaining law and order. He personally monitored enforcement activities at several locations, including Jubilee Hills, Madhura Nagar, Borabanda, Sanathnagar and Ameerpet.
During the drive, police inspected a total of 12,098 vehicles , comprising 8,802 two-wheelers, 1,693 four-wheelers and 1,623 autorickshaws . Officials found 1,406 vehicles with non-compliant number plates , 1,132 vehicles without proper registration plates , and 69 vehicles allegedly using fake number plates .
Police seized 2,149 vehicles for various violations, including 2,046 two-wheelers, 52 four-wheelers and 51 autorickshaws .
Sajjanar said offences involving tampered, fake or missing number plates would not be treated as routine traffic violations. Such practices, he noted, pose serious security concerns and can create legal complications for innocent vehicle owners.
Warning motorists against manipulating registration details, the Commissioner said police would invoke criminal provisions, including charges related to cheating and forgery, in cases where deliberate tampering or use of fake number plates is detected.
He added that similar enforcement drives would continue in the coming days and urged vehicle owners to ensure that their registration plates and vehicle documents comply with legal requirements. Sajjanar also appealed to citizens to cooperate with police efforts aimed at enhancing public safety across Hyderabad.
