Hyderabad Set to Become Green Energy Hub Under Telangana’s Net-Zero Vision

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform Hyderabad into a green energy hub and a net-zero urban centre, positioning it as a national model for sustainable development . Speaking at Mumbai Climate Week at the Jio Convention Centre , he said the Telangana Core Urban Region will be developed into a pollution-free green services hub, with Hyderabad set to become the first Indian city to conduct a comprehensive carbon footprint audit . The government plans to phase out polluting industries from the urban core within five years while promoting clean mobility, renewable power adoption, lake restoration, and river rejuvenation to improve environmental resilience.

To balance growth with sustainability, the state has adopted the CURE–PURE–RARE development framework. Areas within the Outer Ring Road will form the CURE zone focused on services and clean urban living, while the region between the Outer Ring Road and the upcoming Regional Ring Road will be developed as the PURE zone — a green-energy-powered manufacturing hub envisioned as a global supply chain alternative under the “China+1” strategy. The RARE zone will support agriculture and rural livelihoods, ensuring inclusive regional development.

Highlighting economic ambitions, the Chief minister said Telangana aims to grow its economy from about $200 billion to $1 trillion by 2034 and further to $3 trillion by 2047, driven by pillars including economy, environment, education, skills, resources, and employment. With rapid urbanization and industrial expansion, peak power demand is projected to reach 34,000 MW by 2034; currently, about 25% of electricity consumption comes from renewable sources. By expanding clean energy capacity and building major infrastructure such as the 360-km Regional Ring Road and proposed rail network, the government aims to attract green-energy-dependent industries, data centres, and advanced manufacturing. The Chief Minister emphasized that clean energy is the “real currency of growth,” underscoring Telangana’s commitment to climate-aligned economic development.
