HYDRAA Reclaims ₹1,000-Crore Government Land Near HITEX
In a significant anti-encroachment operation, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has reclaimed five acres of prime government land worth nearly ₹1,000 crore in the heart of Hyderabad’s thriving IT corridor , reinforcing its aggressive drive to protect public assets from illegal occupation.
The land is located in Survey No. 42 of Khanamet village in Serilingampally mandal, Rangareddy district , along the strategic stretch connecting Metal Charminar Junction and the HITEX Exhibition Centre . Surrounded by the commercial hubs of HITEC City, Madhapur, Kondapur and Gachibowli , the area is among the most valuable real-estate zones in Telangana, making government properties particularly vulnerable to encroachment attempts.
Officials found that unidentified individuals had allegedly attempted to establish illegal claims over the property by erecting two temporary sheds, a room and fencing around the site. Acting on a complaint from the Revenue Department , HYDRAA teams launched a special operation and removed all unauthorized structures. The agency subsequently fenced the entire five-acre parcel and installed signboards declaring it as government land , preventing further attempts at occupation.
The latest action comes amid a series of high-profile enforcement drives by HYDRAA across Hyderabad’s western growth corridor. Over the past two months, the agency has intensified efforts to protect lakes, parks, open spaces and government lands that have come under increasing pressure from rapid urbanisation and soaring land values.
In May , HYDRAA carried out a major operation at Mushkin Cheruvu in the Puppalaguda–Narsingi region, clearing encroachments and securing nearly 35 acres of government land and lake area valued at around ₹5,500 crore . The agency also fenced the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) boundary to prevent future intrusions.
The agency has also undertaken lake-protection measures in several vulnerable locations and recently fenced portions of Marripally Cheruvu after identifying encroachments within the water body's FTL limits.
Formed in 2024, HYDRAA was tasked with protecting public assets such as government lands, lakes, parks, playgrounds, roads and drainage networks across the Telangana Core Urban Region. Under the leadership of Commissioner A.V. Ranganath , the agency has emerged as one of the state's most visible enforcement bodies. According to official figures, HYDRAA has reclaimed thousands of acres of encroached land worth more than ₹1 lakh crore since its inception.
Officials said the Khanamet operation is another example of the government's determination to safeguard public property in Hyderabad's rapidly expanding technology corridor, where every acre of land commands enormous commercial value. With fresh fencing now in place, authorities believe the reclaimed property has been secured from future encroachment attempts, preserving a valuable public asset for the state.
