‘I Would Do It a Thousand Times’: Rashmika Mandanna’s Strong Reply to Marriage Trolls
Actor Rashmika Mandanna has hit back at social media trolls criticising her husband, Vijay Deverakonda, following their appearance on filmmaker Karan Johar’s chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’, saying that attacking their relationship in the name of feminism amounts to bullying.
In a lengthy statement on Monday, Mandanna said the online debate had gone beyond personal opinions and turned into an “angry mob looking for someone to vent at”. The controversy erupted after Deverakonda said he was not someone who proposed marriage and that Mandanna had asked him to marry her multiple times. Mandanna added that it took her a year to convince him, prompting some social media users to label the actor a “red flag”.
Addressing the criticism, the 30-year-old actor said she usually respected differing opinions but felt the need to speak out as the discussion had become unnecessarily hostile. While saying she could handle personal attacks, she objected to people targeting her family without knowing them.
“That's not feminism. That's bullying dressed up as feminism,” she said, adding that feminism was about having the freedom to make personal choices rather than putting others down or claiming superiority.
Responding to comments that she was overly attached to her husband, Mandanna questioned why being deeply in love with one's partner had become a problem. She described Deverakonda as her lifelong companion and the person with whom she hoped to grow old and raise a family.
Mandanna also defended their different approaches to marriage, saying she knew what she wanted while Deverakonda needed time to consider the practical aspects of life. Their differing perspectives, she said, never changed their love.
For the couple, marriage was not about a proposal, a ring or a grand romantic gesture, but about building a future together.
Mandanna and Deverakonda married on February 26, 2026. She said their relationship did not need to fit other people's expectations.
