India’s growing strength in deep-tech innovation is set to gain global visibility as 16 startups from IIT Bombay prepare to showcase their technologies at Bharat Innovates 2026 , a major international innovation summit scheduled to be held from June 14 to 16 at the Palais des Expositions in Nice, France . The selected startups will present their solutions before global venture capital firms, sovereign wealth funds, research institutions, policymakers, and industry leaders, offering them a unique opportunity to secure international partnerships and investment.

The startups were shortlisted through a rigorous selection process that culminated in the Bharat Innovates Deep-Tech Pre-Summit 2026 , hosted by IIT Bombay earlier this year. The event brought together some of India’s most promising technology ventures, with 137 startups selected from more than 3,000 applications received nationwide. The final cohort represents the country’s most innovative research-driven enterprises working across emerging technology sectors.

Bharat Innovates 2026 is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Education , guided by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India . The programme aims to accelerate the commercialization of cutting-edge technologies, attract global capital, encourage cross-border collaboration, and strengthen India’s position as a leading destination for deep-tech innovation.

The initiative comes at a time when India’s startup ecosystem is undergoing a significant transformation. While the country has long been known for its success in digital services and software-led ventures, the focus is increasingly shifting toward deep-tech startups built on scientific research, advanced engineering, and intellectual property. Areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology, healthcare technologies, advanced manufacturing, sustainability solutions, quantum computing, and space technologies are emerging as key growth sectors.

As one of India’s premier technology institutions, IIT Bombay has played a crucial role in nurturing this transition. Through its research centres, incubators, entrepreneurship programmes, and industry partnerships, the institute has helped convert laboratory innovations into commercially viable products and globally scalable businesses. The participation of 16 IIT Bombay-backed startups in the France showcase highlights the institution’s growing influence in shaping India’s innovation ecosystem.

The Nice summit is expected to feature more than 120 Indian deep-tech startups , creating a platform for innovators to engage directly with international investors, corporations, and research organizations. Beyond funding opportunities, the event is designed to facilitate technology transfer, strategic collaborations, market access, and global expansion.

For India, the event represents more than a startup showcase. It reflects the country’s broader ambition to emerge as a global hub for advanced technologies and innovation-led growth. As the IIT Bombay startups take their innovations to France, they will not only represent their institution but also demonstrate the growing capability of Indian science and engineering to compete on the world stage.
