IIT Delhi Student Death Case: Forensic Team Examines Scene, Foul Play Not Ruled Out
A 31-year-old M.Sc. physics student at IIT Delhi died on Saturday after allegedly jumping from a building on the institute campus, police said, while investigators examined the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to the preliminary inquiry, the student entered the campus through the main gate at around 8 am. He later went to the Lecture Hall Complex and took a lift to the sixth floor before allegedly jumping from the front side of the building.
He was rushed to the IIT Delhi campus hospital, where he was declared dead. A PCR call was received at around 8:30 am at Kishangarh police station, following which a police team reached the campus.
A crime team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit were called to the scene to collect evidence. Police have not publicly disclosed detailed forensic conclusions so far.
Police said no suicide note was recovered from the spot. A mobile phone was found in the student's pocket and is being examined for information that could help reconstruct his activities and communications. Its contents have not been disclosed.
Investigators are also obtaining the student's counselling records and other relevant information from IIT Delhi. The records could help establish whether any documented concerns preceded the incident, though police have not revealed their contents.
Police said there were no apparent injury marks other than those attributable to the fall. This preliminary observation, however, does not by itself establish the motive or conclusively determine whether anyone else was involved.
With no suicide note and no publicly disclosed forensic conclusion or motive, authorities are continuing the investigation. Police have said that all available information is being verified before the circumstances leading to the death are established.
