India A To Face New Zealand A In Three Four-Day Matches Ahead Of Test Series

India A will play three four-day matches against New Zealand A in Christchurch from October 24 to November 10, providing an important red-ball build-up ahead of India's senior team's crucial two-Test World Test Championship (WTC) series against the Black Caps.

The series, confirmed by New Zealand Cricket (NZC), will see the matches played at Bert Sutcliffe Oval and Hagley Oval. The fixtures are scheduled for October 24-27, October 31-November 3 and November 7-10.

The tour is expected to give India's emerging players and fringe international cricketers valuable experience in New Zealand conditions, particularly with the senior side set to return to the country for Test cricket after a long gap. The A-team games could also help selectors assess players who may be in contention for the senior Test squad.

For New Zealand, the series will offer leading domestic red-ball players an opportunity to test themselves against strong international opposition and potentially strengthen their case for future selection. NZC has confirmed that entry to all three matches will be free, with live streaming available through its official digital platforms and live scores carried on the NZC website.

The India A series will overlap with the start of India's Ranji Trophy season on October 11, meaning players selected for the New Zealand tour are likely to miss domestic fixtures.

India's senior tour of New Zealand begins with five T20Is from October 22, followed by five ODIs, before the focus shifts to Test cricket. The first Test will be played in Wellington from November 19-23, followed by the second Test in Christchurch from November 27 to December 1.

The Test series carries major significance for the 2025-27 WTC cycle, with India currently fighting to improve their position after recent results left them in fifth place. Captain Shubman Gill has acknowledged the importance of a strong finish as India chase a place in the WTC final.

With the demanding New Zealand conditions offering a stern examination of pace, swing and red-ball technique, the India A fixtures could prove to be a crucial part of India's preparations. The matches will also provide both teams with an opportunity to assess their depth before the senior sides meet in an important Test series later in November.
