India Add Three Bronzes on Day 2 of Asian U23 Athletics Championships in China

India continued their encouraging run at the inaugural Asian U23 Athletics Championships , adding three bronze medals on the second day of competition in Ordos on Friday. The medals came through Shakeel and Bhumeshwory Devi Huidrom in the 800m events and Abhay Singh in the men's 200m.

The day belonged largely to the middle-distance runners, who delivered two podium finishes for the Indian contingent. Shakeel opened the account by claiming bronze in the men's 800m after clocking 1:48.78 . His compatriot Vinod Kumar B narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in 1:49.10 .

India's second bronze arrived in the women's 800m, where Bhumeshwory Devi Huidrom produced a determined effort to finish third with a time of 2:10.20 . Another Indian in the race, Vaishnavi Rajendra Rawal , placed fifth in 2:10.83 . Jonbibi Hukmove of Uzbekistan won the gold in 2:08.41 , while Japan's Kurumi Sugure secured the silver in 2:09.42 .

In the sprint events, Abhay Singh added another medal to India's tally by finishing third in the men's 200m with a timing of 20.96 seconds . China's Youwen Huang took the gold in 20.43 seconds , while Japan's Kota Uematsu earned silver in 20.58 seconds .

There were also creditable near-podium finishes for the Indian athletes. Sharuk Khan finished fourth in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:14.14 , and Abhijit Sanjay Bhosale placed fourth in the demanding decathlon with an overall tally of 6610 points .

India had begun the championships impressively with five medals, including one gold, on the opening day , and the additional three bronzes further underlined the country's growing depth in athletics.
