India have announced their squads for the upcoming New Zealand tour, with a mix of established players, emerging talent and experienced campaigners returning to the national setup. The tour will feature five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests, while a strong India A side will also play three multi-day matches against New Zealand A.

The 16-member T20I squad will be led by Shreyas Iyer, with Tilak Varma as vice-captain. The squad includes Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dhir, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.

One of the significant selections is Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who returns to the T20I setup after nearly four years. The veteran pacer last represented India in November 2022 and has forced his way back after taking 45 wickets across the last two IPL seasons for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. His experience with the new ball adds depth to India's pace attack, particularly with Jasprit Bumrah rested for the T20I leg.

The T20I series begins on October 22 in Christchurch, followed by matches in Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton on October 24, 27, 30 and November 1 respectively. The squad also retains young batting prospect Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, while Ishan Kishan joins Sanju Samson as a wicketkeeping option.

Alongside the T20I squad, the BCCI has named a 15-member India A team for three multi-day matches against New Zealand A. Dhruv Jurel will captain the side, which includes KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar and Sai Sudharsan. Pant's participation remains subject to fitness.

The bowling group features Akash Deep, Anshul Kamboj, Manav Suthar, Mukesh Choudhary and Mukesh Kumar, while Auqib Nabi adds international experience. The uncapped players are Ravichandran Smaran and Yash Rathod, along with Mukesh Choudhary.

The India A matches will be played in Lincoln from October 24-27, Christchurch from October 31-November 3 and Lincoln again from November 7-10. The schedule creates an overlap with India's ODI commitments, which begin on November 4, making it difficult for players such as Rahul, Jaiswal and Washington Sundar to feature in all three A matches if they are selected for the senior ODI squad.

The A series will nevertheless provide valuable exposure to New Zealand's conditions ahead of the two-Test series, scheduled to begin on November 19. For players such as Akash Deep, Rahul, Jaiswal and Pant, the matches could provide useful red-ball preparation before the senior Test assignment.

With the ODI and Test squads to be announced later, the New Zealand tour is set to test India's depth across formats while giving the selectors opportunities to assess both experienced campaigners and emerging players.
