India, Bangladesh Emphasise Mutual Trust To Take Bilateral Ties Forward

India and Bangladesh on Monday discussed a wide range of issues concerning their bilateral ties and agreed to work together with a forward-looking approach based on mutual trust and mutual benefit.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi met Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Adviser Md Ismail Jabiullah in Dhaka, with discussions focusing on bilateral relations and the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections.

The Indian High Commission said people-to-people relations form the foundation of bilateral ties, highlighting the need to further strengthen such links between the two neighbouring countries.

The two sides also expressed optimism that India and Bangladesh, as sovereign nations, would continue working together with a forward-looking outlook centred on mutual trust and shared interests.

“Optimism was expressed that the two sovereign countries will continue to work together with a forward-looking approach, based on mutual trust and mutual benefit,” the Indian mission said in a post on X.

Trivedi separately met Bangladesh’s Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo and State Minister Shaikh Faridul Islam.

The discussions reviewed progress in existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms covering wildlife conservation and habitat protection. The officials also explored opportunities to expand cooperation on transboundary pollution, waste management and other environmental issues of mutual interest.

The latest diplomatic engagements come amid a series of meetings between Trivedi and senior Bangladeshi political leaders in recent weeks. These included discussions with Prime Minister Rahman, as India stressed the importance of creating a conducive environment for further strengthening bilateral relations.

The outreach assumes significance as both countries seek to maintain dialogue and cooperation across multiple areas. The emphasis on people-to-people ties, environmental cooperation and mutual benefit reflects an effort to keep bilateral engagement focused on practical areas of shared interest.
