The opposition INDIA bloc is set for a key coordination meeting in New Delhi , with the Congress confirming that 23 political parties will participate, underscoring its message of unity despite internal differences within the alliance.

The meeting will take place on Monday, June 8, 2026 , at the Constitution Club and is expected to focus on shaping a joint political strategy and preparing for the 2029 general elections .

Amid this backdrop, Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee travelled to Delhi on Sunday , a day ahead of the meeting, as speculation continues over a possible split within the party’s parliamentary ranks. She was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen and senior Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee .

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had already reached the national capital a day earlier, signalling heightened activity within the party leadership as it deals with internal concerns. Reports suggest the leadership is closely monitoring developments amid indications of dissent within its parliamentary group.

The situation comes at a sensitive time for the party, following a major setback in West Bengal politics , where a large number of MLAs recently broke away from the party’s legislature wing, intensifying concerns that similar divisions could emerge among MPs in Parliament.

Within the INDIA bloc, the Congress reiterated that the alliance remains committed to unity despite differing positions among constituents. Senior leader Jairam Ramesh said that while some parties may not attend the meeting for their own reasons, they continue to oppose the policies of the central government and remain aligned on broader political concerns.

Trinamool Congress MP Derek O Brien also stressed the spirit of cooperation within the alliance, describing the upcoming meeting as one based on common purpose and clear intent , with emphasis on coordination among opposition parties.

However, differences within the bloc remain visible. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has decided to skip the meeting, while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has raised objections over recent remarks by Congress leaders and sought clarification. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also distanced itself from the alliance’s activities.

Despite these challenges, the Delhi meeting is being seen as a crucial attempt to strengthen coordination among opposition parties, resolve internal concerns, and align strategy ahead of future electoral battles, even as individual parties manage their own internal political pressures.
