INDIA Bloc Protests in Hyderabad, Demands CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation
Leaders and workers of the INDIA bloc staged a protest in Hyderabad on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration was held outside the city Collectorate, with Telangana Congress leaders joined by representatives and supporters of other parties in the alliance. The protesters raised objections to the revision of electoral rolls and alleged deletion of names of eligible voters.
Addressing the gathering, Congress leader Motha Rohith said the INDIA bloc was organising protests across the country to protect democratic values and ensure that citizens’ voting rights were safeguarded. He alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner was acting in favour of the BJP and claimed that eligible voters were being removed from electoral rolls.
Rohith called for Gyanesh Kumar’s arrest and resignation, while warning that the agitation would be intensified in the coming days. He said INDIA bloc parties would mobilise people for a major protest at Lok Bhavan on October 8. The parties, he said, would continue their campaign until their demands were addressed.
The Congress leader also announced plans for a larger mobilisation in the national capital. He said INDIA bloc supporters would travel to Delhi in large numbers on November 1 as part of a ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme and stage further protests over the issue.
The Hyderabad demonstration formed part of a wider series of protests announced by opposition parties in Telangana. Congress and Left parties had called for demonstrations at district Collectorates on October 6, followed by the Lok Bhavan protest on October 8 and the Delhi programme on November 1.
The issue also led to a demonstration by INDIA bloc MPs in New Delhi on Tuesday. Opposition MPs marched from Parliament towards Nirvachan Sadan, but were stopped by the police. They later staged a sit-in near the Election Commission office.
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several other opposition leaders participated in the protest. They too demanded the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and raised concerns over electoral roll revisions.
The protests in Hyderabad and Delhi reflect the opposition bloc’s broader campaign over voter-list revisions and its demand for greater accountability in the functioning of the election process.
