India Crush Tanzania 48-20 to Storm Into Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship Semifinals
India’s men’s kabaddi team delivered a dominant performance to defeat Tanzania 48-20 and secure a semifinal berth in the inaugural Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
The hosts have won all five of their group matches and are assured of finishing at the top of the standings. They will face Sri Lanka in their final group-stage fixture on Thursday.
India started aggressively, racing to a 3-0 lead before inflicting an all-out in the eighth minute to establish a double-digit advantage. The hosts carried their momentum into the break, leading 25-8 at half-time.
India’s raiders were in outstanding form, collecting 30 raid points compared with Tanzania’s 15. Their speed, nimble footwork and sharp movements repeatedly unsettled the Tanzanian defence.
The Indian defence also played a crucial role, scoring 10 tackle points against Tanzania’s five. Shubham Shinde led the defensive effort with five points, while Deepak S added three and Parvesh Bhainswal contributed two.
India’s coordinated defending restricted Tanzania’s scoring opportunities, while the hosts inflicted six all-outs to complete a convincing 28-point victory.
Elsewhere, Kenya continued their unbeaten run in the women’s competition with a 61-16 victory over Scotland. Lavenda Odhiambo led Kenya with 16 points, while Esther Omolo scored nine and Joy Vanessa Onyango added six.
Malaysia also dominated, beating Singapore 62-17, with Shamitra scoring 17 points and Darsini contributing 12.
Bangladesh defeated Singapore 60-28, powered by Mijanur Rahman’s 12 points and Dipayon Golder’s 10. Canada registered their second win by beating Scotland 62-30, with Anmol Thakur scoring 19 points and Manpreet Singh adding 15.
India will now look to maintain their momentum against Sri Lanka before turning their attention to the knockout stage.
