India Face Sri Lanka Again In Asia Cup Final, Eyeing Eighth Women’s Title

India will get another opportunity to settle an old score when they take on defending champions Sri Lanka in the Women's Asia Cup final on Sunday, setting up a repeat of the title clash from the previous edition.

Sri Lanka booked their place in the summit clash with a hard-fought four-wicket victory over Pakistan on Friday. Chasing 131, the hosts appeared in serious trouble at 33 for four after just 6.2 overs before Harshitha Samarawickrama and Kavisha Dilhari steadied the innings.

The pair added 67 runs for the fifth wicket, bringing Sri Lanka back into the contest. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana briefly swung the momentum back in her team's favour by dismissing both batters in the same over, leaving Sri Lanka at 109 for six and needing 22 from the final three overs.

However, Nilakshika Silva and Kaushini Nuthyangana kept their composure to take Sri Lanka across the line with eight balls remaining.

Earlier, Pakistan had recovered from 52 for four to post 130 for five, largely because of an unbeaten 47 off 36 balls from Sana.

The final carries added significance for India. Sri Lanka defeated them by eight wickets in the 2024 final, securing their maiden Women's Asia Cup title. India will now look to overturn that result and reclaim the trophy.

Harmanpreet Kaur's side have been the more dominant team in the tournament so far, winning all four matches. India topped the group stage with three victories before producing a convincing 40-run win over Bangladesh in the semifinal.

With India chasing a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title and Sri Lanka defending their crown on home soil, Sunday's final promises another high-stakes chapter in one of the tournament's emerging rivalries.
