India, France And UAE Hold Trilateral Talks On AI, Space And Energy On UNGA Sidelines
India, France and the United Arab Emirates held trilateral talks on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, discussing artificial intelligence, space, health sciences, energy and culture as the three countries explore areas for closer cooperation.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the countries identified areas where their respective strengths could complement each other. In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Our shared interests and complimentary capabilities offer immense scope for cooperation. Agreed to meet again soon to take the discussion forward.”
AI was among the key areas discussed during the meeting, reflecting the growing importance of the technology in India’s international diplomacy. India has been pushing for greater international cooperation on AI governance while advocating meaningful access to emerging technologies and the infrastructure required to deploy them, particularly for developing countries.
India’s priorities for the 81st UN General Assembly also include encouraging domestic AI innovation and supporting a more inclusive approach to AI governance.
The trilateral discussions also covered space cooperation, alongside health sciences, energy and culture. By bringing these sectors into the three-way dialogue, India, France and the UAE are broadening the scope of their partnership beyond traditional areas of cooperation.
The meeting came amid India’s wider efforts to build international partnerships around the infrastructure supporting the AI economy.
During UNGA week, the Consulate General of India in New York, together with ReNew and the US-India Strategic and Partnership Forum, also convened a roundtable titled US India Partnership: Powering the AI Economy.
The discussion examined how the US-India corridor could support investment in data centres and AI infrastructure. Participants also discussed the need for reliable power supplies and stronger grid capacity as electricity demand from AI systems grows.
The roundtable further explored public, private and blended financing for cross-border energy and digital infrastructure projects, as well as closer alignment of policy, regulatory and technology frameworks.
A report titled Powering the AI Age: India’s Next Energy Export Opportunity was also launched at the event.
The parallel discussions underline the growing link between India’s AI ambitions and energy infrastructure, as countries expand computing capacity and data centres and seek reliable electricity to support the technology.
