The India Open Super 750 , India’s premier badminton tournament, will be held in February from 2027 and move to late January in 2028 , according to the World Tour calendar for 2027–28 announced by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday.

The 2027 edition is scheduled from February 2 to 7 in New Delhi , while the 2028 event will take place from January 25 to 30 in the national capital. The tournament, traditionally held in January, was staged in early January in previous editions, including the 2026 event held from January 13 to 18 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium .

The 2026 edition had come under criticism from several elite international players due to poor air quality, freezing indoor temperatures, and hygiene concerns at the venue , raising concerns over player comfort and competition standards.

Alongside the India Open scheduling change, the BWF has confirmed the structure of a 35-tournament global circuit for 2027 and 2028 , spanning Super 100 to Super 1000 levels , along with the season-ending World Tour Finals . The calendar will run throughout the year from January to December .

At the top tier, the circuit will feature five Super 1000 tournaments across Asia and Europe , each scheduled over 11 days across two weekends . The revised format will include a 48-player singles draw with a group stage followed by knockout rounds , while doubles will follow a 32-pair knockout format .

The BWF stated that all Super 1000 events will be broadcast globally , expanding the sport’s reach to wider international audiences.

The federation also highlighted key reforms aimed at improving player welfare, including extended competition windows, better recovery time between matches, and more balanced scheduling , which it said will help athletes sustain longer careers at the highest level.

All tournaments in the 2027–2028 cycle will be played under a new 3x15 scoring system , which will come into effect from January 4, 2027 , as part of BWF’s long-term plan to modernise badminton and enhance its global presentation.

The calendar also aligns with the LA28 Olympic Games qualification window , which runs from May 3, 2027 to April 30, 2028 .

The BWF added that dates and host cities for major events such as the Sudirman Cup Finals 2027, World Championships 2027, and Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2028 will be announced separately.
