India has joined 34 other countries in backing a US-led initiative aimed at building trusted and resilient supply chains to support the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

At the second Pax Silica Summit in Washington on Thursday, 35 nations signed the Joint Statement on AI Opportunity , endorsing a pro-growth, pro-innovation approach to AI development. The summit brings together governments and industry leaders to advance cooperation on artificial intelligence, semiconductor ecosystems, and secure technology supply chains. The initiative seeks to strengthen global collaboration on AI infrastructure, semiconductor production, and resilient technology supply chains .

Speaking at the summit, Jacob Helberg, US Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs , said the signatories had committed to creating trusted supply chains, mobilising private sector investment, and developing the infrastructure needed to power the next generation of AI technologies.

New members joining the Pax Silica Initiative include Argentina, Germany, the Netherlands, Chile, Costa Rica, Greece, Kazakhstan, Panama, and the European Union. India , which joined the initiative in February during the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, was represented by S. Krishnan , Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Nagraj Naidu , Additional Secretary (Americas) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and industry representatives.

The Indian delegation held discussions with governments and industry leaders on expanding collaboration in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and resilient technology supply chains .

Helberg said the future of AI would be determined by countries that build greater energy capacity, computing power, semiconductor production, and skilled talent , rather than those that regulate first. He added that the initiative aims to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, private investment, and adherence to the rule of law while strengthening participating economies.
