India to Host BRICS Anti-Drug Agencies Meet in Guwahati on Global Narcotics Threats
India will host a two-day BRICS Heads of Anti-Drug Agencies Meeting in Guwahati from today, focusing on strengthening intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and institutional cooperation to combat global narcotics trafficking, the government said.
Organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under the Union Home Ministry, the meeting will bring together heads of anti-drug agencies and senior officials from all BRICS member countries .
The discussions come at a time when the global drug threat is rapidly evolving, with the rise of synthetic drugs, new psychoactive substances (NPS), darknet-enabled trafficking, and cryptocurrency-linked financial networks , creating complex transnational challenges. At the same time, advances in data analytics, interdiction technologies, and financial intelligence are expected to support stronger enforcement efforts.
India aims to push BRICS cooperation beyond dialogue towards structured, action-oriented collaboration , with emphasis on coordinated enforcement, capacity building, and rapid intelligence exchange.
Key priority areas include combating synthetic drugs and precursor diversion, strengthening real-time intelligence sharing and operational coordination, and expanding training and institutional partnerships among member nations.
The agenda will also cover monitoring of clandestine laboratories, precursor chemicals, and pharmaceutical diversion , along with joint training programmes and expert exchanges.
During the two-day meet, participating countries will hold six thematic sessions addressing emerging challenges such as darknet trafficking, global supply chain vulnerabilities, and drug demand reduction strategies.
The meeting is expected to conclude with the adoption of a Joint Declaration , reinforcing collective commitment to tackle the global drug menace.
