India Women’s South Africa Tour Expanded With Addition Of T20I Series

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has expanded India Women’s tour of South Africa later this year by adding a T20I series to the itinerary, creating a comprehensive multi-format tour featuring a one-off Test and a three-match ODI and T20I series.

The revised schedule was announced on Thursday, with the one-off Test set to be played from December 9 to 12. The ODI series will follow between December 16 and 22, while the newly added T20I series will take place from December 26 to 30, extending India’s stay in South Africa by nearly a week.

The T20Is will be hosted in Benoni and Potchefstroom, venues selected to help both teams sharpen their preparations for the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in February.

Welcoming the revised itinerary, CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki said the additional T20Is would ensure the Proteas Women receive quality match practice before another major ICC tournament.

He noted that facing India, one of the strongest teams in women’s cricket, across all three formats would provide invaluable competitive exposure as South Africa continue building towards the prestigious global event.

For India, the extended tour presents another opportunity to test combinations, gain overseas experience and fine-tune strategies in varied conditions before the Champions Trophy. The series is also expected to offer valuable match time to players returning from domestic and international commitments.

The two sides share an increasingly competitive rivalry. India toured South Africa earlier this year for a five-match T20I series, where the hosts emerged 4-1 winners. More recently, the teams met in the Women’s T20 World Cup in England, with South Africa defeating India in a crucial encounter that significantly damaged the visitors’ hopes of reaching the semifinals.

With matches across every international format, the upcoming tour promises to be a significant examination for both teams as they gear up for a packed international calendar and an important ICC tournament.
