

India Wrap Up Ulaanbaatar Open With 17-Medal Haul, Three Freestyle Golds
India concluded a strong campaign at the Ulaanbaatar Open Senior Ranking Series wrestling tournament with freestyle wrestlers Deepak (61kg), Sagar Jaglan (74kg) and Dinesh (125kg) securing gold medals on the final day, helping the country finish with a total of 17 medals across categories .
The trio’s dominant performances on Sunday ensured India added seven medals in men’s freestyle alone, while the overall tally included contributions from Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling, securing a top-three finish in the team standings .
Deepak delivered a commanding performance in the 61kg final, defeating Kazakhstan’s Assyl Aitakyn 6-0 with complete control throughout the bout. In the 74kg category, Sagar Jaglan showed resilience in a closely fought contest, edging Russia’s Tamir Eshinimaev 3-2 to clinch gold. In the heavyweight division (125kg), Dinesh produced a tactical display to overcome Kazakhstan’s Yedige Kassimbek 2-0 in a tight final.
India’s freestyle squad also added four bronze medals through Sumit (57kg), Kumar Mohit (65kg), Jaideep (74kg) and Vicky (97kg), finishing as runner-up in the freestyle team standings behind Russia .
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Sanjay Singh described the performance as a significant milestone, highlighting the team’s depth and consistency against strong international opposition.
Earlier, India’s Greco-Roman wrestlers concluded their campaign with two gold medals through Sunil (87kg) and Nitesh (97kg), along with a bronze from Sahil (60kg). The Greco-Roman team went on to clinch the overall team championship with 119 points .
The women’s contingent also contributed strongly, winning seven medals. Gold medals were secured by Manisha (57kg), Neha (59kg) and Kajal (76kg), while Neelam (50kg), Hansika Lamba (55kg), Mansi (62kg) and Priya (76kg) added bronze medals to India’s tally.
