Indian Golfer Diksha Dagar Takes Joint Lead in Belgium with Brilliant Opening Round
Indian golfer Diksha Dagar made an impressive start to her campaign at the Hulencourt Women's Open in Belgium, carding a flawless 4 under 68 to move into the joint lead after the opening round on Thursday. The strong performance has placed the two time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner in an excellent position as she chases her third title on the prestigious circuit.
Dagar's round was a model of consistency and composure. She did not drop a single shot throughout the day, producing a bogey free scorecard that reflected both accuracy and patience. She was tied at the top of the leaderboard with South Africa's Nadia Van der Westhuizen , who still had three holes left to complete, and England's Bronte Law , who had six holes remaining when play concluded.
The 25 year old Indian began steadily before picking up her first birdie on the 10th hole. Another birdie on the 14th helped her make the turn at 2 under . She carried the momentum into the back nine, adding birdies on the first and sixth holes while comfortably parring the remaining holes to finish with a superb 68.
With several players yet to complete their rounds, Dagar's excellent opening effort has nevertheless ensured she remains firmly in contention heading into the second round. Her calm approach and error free golf underline the confidence she has built over recent seasons on the European circuit.
Among the chasing pack, England's Meghan Maclaren , Slovenia's Pia Babnik , and Australia's Kirsten Rudgeley completed their rounds at 2 under 70 , sitting two shots behind the leaders.
India also had encouraging performances elsewhere in the field. Aditi Ashok was 1 under through 12 holes , placing her provisionally in a tie for 10th before play ended. Avani Prashanth signed for an even par 72 , leaving her tied for 21st, while Pranavi Urs opened with a 1 over 73 to occupy a share of 36th place.
With three rounds still to be played, Dagar has given herself a strong platform to challenge for another Ladies European Tour triumph. If she can maintain the same level of precision and confidence over the coming days, the Indian star could well find herself lifting another trophy in Belgium.
