Indian High Jumper Sarvesh Kushare Makes History with Third Place in Monaco
National record holder Sarvesh Kushare announced his arrival on one of athletics' biggest stages with a memorable third-place finish on his Diamond League debut in Monaco.
The 31-year-old high jumper produced a composed and confident performance against a world-class field, clearing 2.12m, 2.16m, 2.20m, 2.23m and 2.26m on his first attempts. He then made three attempts at 2.28m , but could not go over the bar, eventually settling for a creditable third place.
Kushare's achievement is significant not only for the podium finish but also for what it represents in Indian athletics. With this performance, he became only the fourth Indian athlete to finish among the top three at a Diamond League meeting, joining an elite group that includes Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra , long jumper Murali Sreeshankar , and former discus thrower Vikas Gowda .
The podium finish comes just weeks after Kushare rewrote the national record books by clearing 2.31m at the National Inter-State Championships, underlining his remarkable consistency and upward trajectory this season.
Competing in a star-studded lineup in Monaco, Kushare showed no signs of being overwhelmed by the occasion. His flawless progression through the earlier heights reflected both confidence and technical precision, while his successful clearance at 2.26m secured a historic result for Indian high jumping.
As Indian athletics continues to make strides on the global stage, Kushare's breakthrough performance in Monaco offers fresh hope and excitement ahead of the major international competitions to come.
