Indian National Held In Nepal Drug Case As Separate Jeep Crash Reveals Major Cannabis Haul

An Indian national has been arrested in Nepal's Lumbini province for allegedly carrying narcotic drugs hidden inside his undergarments during a routine security check, police said.

The accused, identified as Mohmad Rijwan, 40, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, was detained in Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City while undergoing a security inspection. Police said a team deployed for checking intercepted him during routine surveillance on a route frequently used for cross-border movement. During the search, officers recovered 63.5 grams of brown sugar , concealed in a small packet hidden in his undergarments. His motorbike was also seized at the scene. Authorities said he has been taken into custody under Narcotics Control Act provisions , and preliminary interrogation is underway to trace possible supply links and cross-border networks. Officials confirmed that the investigation is focused on identifying both handlers and distribution routes operating along the India-Nepal border region.

In a separate incident in Koshi province , police recovered a large quantity of marijuana following a jeep accident along an interior road section. According to officials, the vehicle lost control and overturned, after which the driver fled the scene before security personnel arrived. A search of the wreckage led to the recovery of around 104 kg of marijuana , suspected to be part of a trafficking consignment being transported through alternate rural routes to evade border checks. Authorities said the abandoned vehicle has been impounded and efforts are ongoing to locate the absconding driver and uncover the wider network involved.

Police in both provinces have intensified investigations into cross-border drug trafficking routes and associated criminal groups.
