A 39-year-old Indian-origin woman has been charged with murder and perverting the course of justice after the body of a man was discovered inside a van in Leicester, with investigators continuing efforts to establish the victim’s identity and circumstances of death.

Harinder Kaur, from Hounslow in west London, is due to appear before Leicester Magistrates’ Court this week, according to the Metropolitan Police , which has now taken over the investigation.

Police said the case began on May 27 when officers were called to Garden Street, Leicester, at around 5:30 pm after a member of the public reported concern about a parked white Ford Transit van. On forced entry, officers found the body of a man inside the vehicle .

Initial inquiries were led by Leicestershire Police and the East Midlands Special Operations Unit before the case was transferred to the Met after the van was linked to a west London address in Hounslow .

Authorities confirmed Kaur was arrested on May 29 in Hounslow following further enquiries and a search of a property linked to the vehicle’s registered keeper. She was subsequently charged after forensic and investigative review.

Detectives believe the man may have been killed at a location other than Leicester , with his body later transported in the van to the city centre. The victim, believed to be in his 30s, has not yet been formally identified.

Police are continuing to appeal for CCTV, doorbell, and dashcam footage of a white Ford Transit van (registration BF18 VNV) travelling between London and Leicester, as efforts continue to trace the victim’s next of kin and establish a full timeline of events.
