India's 16-Year-Old Swimming Sensation Creates History With Two Youth Olympic Medals
Indian swimming sensation Dhinidhi Desinghu delivered another impressive performance at the Dakar Youth Olympic Games, winning bronze in the girls’ 200m freestyle on Friday to complete a memorable double at the global youth sporting event.
The 16-year-old clocked 2:02.28 in the final to secure third place, adding another medal to the bronze she had earlier claimed in the girls’ 100m freestyle.
China’s M Chang won the gold medal with a time of 1:59.59, while Croatia’s Ana Bobanovic secured silver in 2:01.17.
The 200m freestyle was considered Desinghu’s primary event, making her podium finish particularly significant. Having already secured a medal in the 100m freestyle, the Indian swimmer once again demonstrated her ability to compete against some of the best young swimmers in the world.
With two individual medals at the Games, Desinghu has also created a milestone in Indian sporting history. She has become the first Indian athlete to win multiple medals in individual events at the Youth Olympic Games.
Her double-medal achievement marks a significant moment for Indian swimming and establishes the teenager as one of the country’s promising young sporting talents.
