India’s Jan Aushadhi Network Surpasses 20,000 Outlets Across Country

India’s network of Jan Aushadhi Kendras has crossed the 20,000 mark, strengthening the government’s push to make quality medicines available at affordable prices across the country.

A total of 20,149 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) were operational nationwide as of June 30, 2026, under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), according to data provided by the Department of Pharmaceuticals.

The figures were shared by Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

The expansion gives the scheme a broad national footprint, with Kendras spread across states and Union Territories. Uttar Pradesh has the largest network with 4,226 Kendras, followed by Kerala with 1,833 and Karnataka with 1,720.

Tamil Nadu has 1,631 Kendras, while Bihar has 1,304. West Bengal has 1,014, Gujarat 955, Odisha 881 and Rajasthan 794. Delhi accounts for 692 Kendras, while Maharashtra has 763 and Madhya Pradesh 690.

The network also extends to smaller and remote regions. Ladakh has three Kendras, Lakshadweep one and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands six. Other northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, have also been covered.

The government’s focus on expanding Jan Aushadhi outlets is aimed at improving access to affordable generic medicines, particularly for people seeking lower-cost treatment options. The Kendras provide an important channel for making medicines accessible beyond major urban centres.

Crossing 20,000 outlets marks a significant expansion of the public-facing pharmaceutical network and reflects the growing reach of the PMBJP.

With thousands of Kendras now operating across the country, the initiative is positioned to further widen access to cost-effective medicines and strengthen the availability of affordable healthcare products for households.

The latest state-wise figures underline the scale of the programme, while the presence of Kendras across diverse geographies highlights its nationwide reach. The milestone comes as the government continues to use the Jan Aushadhi network to support more accessible and affordable healthcare for households across the country.
