As Indian states increasingly look beyond national borders to attract investment and expand export markets, Madhya Pradesh is set to host a major international business forum aimed at strengthening economic ties with countries across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Diplomatic representatives from more than 15 Latin American and Caribbean nations will participate in the India-Latin America and the Caribbean Countries Trade and Investment Forum 2026 in Indore on Saturday. The event is being seen as a significant step in the state's efforts to position itself as a global investment and export hub while deepening commercial engagement with emerging international markets.

The conference is being organized jointly by the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) and the Global India Business Forum (GIBF) . Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the event, which is expected to draw more than 350 participants , including ambassadors, high commissioners, diplomatic representatives, investors, industry bodies and business delegates from across the Latin American and Caribbean region.

According to officials, the forum will serve as a platform to showcase Madhya Pradesh's industrial strengths, investment-friendly policies and export potential. The state government plans to highlight opportunities across key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, engineering, textiles, food processing and packaging materials , while presenting its industrial infrastructure to prospective investors and business partners.

The event comes amid growing trade relations between Madhya Pradesh and countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region. State exports to these markets reached ₹3,835 crore during the 2025-26 financial year , marking a 19 percent increase over the previous fiscal year. Officials believe the upward trend demonstrates rising demand for products from Madhya Pradesh and underscores the importance of expanding economic partnerships in the region.

Beyond trade promotion, the conference reflects a broader shift in India's economic strategy, where investment summits are increasingly being used as tools of sub-national economic diplomacy . Experts describe this trend as "paradiplomacy" or "subnational diplomacy," wherein state governments directly engage foreign governments, diplomatic missions and international businesses to advance regional economic interests.

Over the past decade, several Indian states have relied on investor summits, trade missions and international business forums to attract foreign capital and integrate local industries into global supply chains. Madhya Pradesh's latest initiative aligns with this approach, signaling its intent to play a more active role in international economic engagement.

Officials expect the Indore forum to generate new investment opportunities, strengthen export linkages and open avenues for long-term collaboration between Madhya Pradesh and the Latin American and Caribbean economies, further enhancing the state's global business profile.
