Inter-State Newborn Trafficking Racket Busted, 12 Arrested, Five Infants Rescued
Delhi Police have busted a major inter-state newborn trafficking racket , arrested 12 people , including the alleged kingpin, and rescued five infants in what investigators describe as a significant breakthrough against organised child trafficking.
According to police sources, the accused were part of a network involved in the illegal procurement, transportation and sale of newborn babies across multiple states. Among those arrested is a woman who allegedly posed as a doctor and operated a nursing home that investigators believe was used as a key link in the trafficking chain. Authorities are currently verifying her medical credentials.
The five rescued infants include a baby just five days old , while the others are aged 20 days, 27 days, 27 days and four months. Police said the children have been placed under care and protection while efforts are made to trace their biological families and establish the circumstances under which they were taken.
Preliminary investigations suggest the syndicate procured newborns from different states, allegedly manipulated birth-related records and documents , and sold babies to prospective parents for large sums of money . Arrests were carried out in Delhi and Rajasthan , while investigators have also uncovered links to Haryana , where some infants were reportedly sold.
Police are now examining the network's financial trail , interstate connections and the role of each accused. Investigators suspect that more than 20 newborns may have been trafficked through the racket, though the exact number is yet to be confirmed.
Officials said the operation has exposed a well-organised trafficking network spanning several states. Further details regarding the syndicate's structure, the identities of the accused and the rescue operation are expected during an official briefing by Delhi Police later in the day as the investigation continues.
