IPL 2027 Trade: CSK Strengthen Batting, SRH Bolster Pace Attack in Four-Player Deal
Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad have completed a four-player trade ahead of IPL 2027, with England all-rounder Liam Livingstone and Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards moving to Chennai, while Indian left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed and Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis will join Hyderabad.
Under the deal, CSK have secured Livingstone for ₹6 crore, significantly lower than the ₹13 crore at which SRH originally acquired him. The England international is expected to add power-hitting options and bowling depth to Chennai's middle order, although he endured a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign with limited opportunities.
Australian seam-bowling all-rounder Edwards joins CSK for his existing fee of ₹3 crore. The 26-year-old was unable to make his IPL debut in 2026 after being ruled out of the season with a foot injury. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball gives Chennai another all-round option.
In return, SRH have acquired Khaleel for ₹4.8 crore and Ellis for ₹2 crore, strengthening their pace-bowling resources ahead of the new season.
Khaleel returns to Hyderabad, having previously represented the franchise between 2018 and 2021. He enjoyed an impressive IPL 2025 season, claiming 15 wickets in 14 matches for CSK. However, his 2026 campaign was cut short by a right quadriceps injury after five appearances.
Ellis, meanwhile, brings considerable T20 experience and is known for his variations and effectiveness in the death overs, giving SRH another option to strengthen their fast-bowling attack.
The exchange represents a significant squad reshuffle for both franchises, with CSK prioritising batting firepower and all-round options, while SRH look to reinforce their bowling department as they prepare for IPL 2027.
