IPL Turns 20 In 2027: BCCI Calls Key Stakeholders For October 15 Meet, Plans Grand Celebrations
With the Indian Premier League (IPL) set to complete two decades in 2027, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has convened a joint stakeholder meeting on October 15 to review the tournament’s journey, address operational concerns and begin preparations for its landmark 20th season.
The meeting, scheduled to take place in Mumbai, will bring together IPL franchise owners and chief executive officers, state cricket associations that have hosted matches, and broadcasters. The board intends to gather feedback from across the league’s ecosystem, assess lessons from previous editions and discuss arrangements for the 2027 season.
Venue management and match-day coordination are expected to be among the key areas of discussion, with state associations playing a crucial role in delivering the tournament. Their experience in managing stadium operations, match-day logistics and other hosting responsibilities will help the board identify issues that require attention ahead of the next edition.
The participation of franchise representatives and broadcasters will also allow the BCCI to hear concerns from stakeholders involved in the league’s sporting, commercial and operational activities. However, the board has not publicly detailed any specific proposals or decisions expected from the October 15 meeting.
The discussions come as the IPL approaches a significant milestone. At its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai last month, the BCCI announced that its general body had unanimously decided to celebrate the completion of two decades of the IPL in a “grand way” in 2027.
Launched in 2008, the IPL has grown into one of the world’s leading franchise-based T20 cricket competitions, attracting international players, major commercial partnerships and a large global audience. Its 20th season will offer the board an opportunity to celebrate that growth while reviewing how the tournament can be organised more effectively.
The October 15 meeting is expected to serve as an important platform for consultation before detailed plans for the landmark edition take shape. While the scale and format of the anniversary celebrations remain unclear, the BCCI’s decision to bring key stakeholders together signals an early push to coordinate preparations for the 2027 tournament.
