Iran War Strains US Stockpiles, Pentagon Seeks $80 Billion

The US Pentagon is seeking an additional USD 80 billion from Congress to cover the rising costs of the war against Iran, triggering a fresh debate in Washington over military spending, national security priorities and the long-term financial burden of the conflict. The request comes as the administration of President Donald Trump pushes for a record USD 1.5 trillion defence budget , a nearly 50 percent increase over current spending levels.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the Pentagon has informed lawmakers that the funding is needed primarily to sustain military operations, replenish depleted weapons stockpiles, repair damaged equipment and maintain troop deployments across the Middle East.
