'Irumudi' Storms To No. 1 On Netflix After Rs 200 Crore Success

Ravi Teja’s 'Irumudi' is continuing its remarkable run even after moving from theatres to streaming. The Shiva Nirvana directorial has now climbed to the No. 1 position on Netflix India’s trending chart, giving the film another major milestone after its successful theatrical run.

Released on August 21, 'Irumudi' emerged as Ravi Teja’s biggest solo theatrical success. The film crossed the Rs 200 crore worldwide mark on its 15th day, becoming the actor’s first film as a lead to achieve the milestone. Reports have since placed its worldwide gross at around Rs 238 crore, with its India net collection crossing Rs 186 crore.

The film’s theatrical performance was driven by its emotional storyline centred on the relationship between a father and daughter. Ravi Teja plays an Ayyappa devotee whose bond with his daughter forms the emotional core of the story. The film also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar and Baby Nakshatra.

The strong theatrical numbers had already established 'Irumudi' as a career milestone for Ravi Teja and a major success for Shiva Nirvana. The director recently revealed that he deliberately wanted to make an intense story after 'Kushi', and said the response to 'Irumudi' gave him confidence that his creative intentions had connected with audiences.

The film’s Netflix arrival sparked fresh debate on social media, with some users questioning its theatrical numbers and others calling it overrated. However, its latest position on Netflix provides a different measure of audience interest. The film’s streaming performance will become clearer as Netflix releases its weekly viewing data.

Meanwhile, Mythri Movie Makers, which backed 'Irumudi', has another title, 'Modha Rathri', also appearing among Netflix’s leading trending films, according to reports.

With its theatrical run crossing the Rs 200 crore milestone and its digital release now reaching No. 1 on Netflix India, 'Irumudi' has added another chapter to its unexpected box office and streaming journey.
