Is a Cabinet Shake Up Coming? Modi-Murmu Meeting Fuels Speculation

A meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday has sparked fresh political speculation over a possible Cabinet reshuffle in the Union Council of Ministers.

The President’s Office shared photographs of the meeting on X, confirming that the Prime Minister called on the President soon after the civil investiture ceremony held to confer the Padma awards. While officially described as a routine engagement, the timing has drawn attention in political circles amid growing talk of changes in the government structure.

Speculation has gained momentum following recent ministerial developments. Senior BJP leader George Kurian recently resigned from the Union Council of Ministers after completing his Rajya Sabha term. He served as Minister of State for Minority Affairs and also handled Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying portfolios.

His resignation has been accepted by the President, according to an official statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan .

Another minister of state, Ravneet Singh , has also not been renominated to the Rajya Sabha after his term ended on June 21. He previously handled responsibilities in the Railways Ministry and Food Processing Industries Ministry .

Within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party , a series of recent organisational changes has further added to the speculation. Several Union ministers have been assigned key party responsibilities in their home states, a move widely seen as part of a broader internal restructuring exercise.

Earlier appointments of senior leaders to state party units have also contributed to expectations of a possible reshuffle at the Centre.

While there is no official confirmation yet, the combination of ministerial exits , organisational reshuffles , and high level meetings has intensified political curiosity in the national capital.
