Is Asim Munir trying to kill Imran Khan in jail? Sisters warn of lethal plot

The saga of Imran Khan , Pakistan’s former prime minister, has taken a chilling twist. Khan’s sisters, Dr Uzma Khan and Aleema Khan , have accused Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and senior officials of plotting to kill him in jail. At a press briefing on 18 February 2026, the sisters claimed Khan had personally warned them about threats to his life and alleged that deliberate neglect and mistreatment in Adiala Jail were putting him in danger. They also accused Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi of issuing threats to the family, warning that officials had “tasted blood” and would face consequences if “anything happens to Imran.” They demanded he be allowed trusted doctors and proper medical care, a plea ignored by authorities.

The situation has intensified concerns over Khan’s health. In 2025, he reportedly suffered a dangerous blood clot and underwent emergency surgery conducted in secrecy , without his family or the public being informed. Since then, his condition has reportedly worsened, with 85% of vision lost in one eye , which lawyers and relatives attribute to delayed and inadequate prison care. Government officials insist Khan is receiving proper treatment, but the family strongly rejects this claim.

The sisters’ revelations strike a grim chord in Pakistan’s history, where it has often been dangerous to be a former prime minister . Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was executed in 1979 after a military coup. His daughter, Benazir Bhutto , faced exile and political battles before being assassinated in 2007. Nawaz Sharif survived coups, imprisonment, and exile, illustrating a repeated cycle of political leaders facing imprisonment, exile, or violent death.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly joined other ex-international skippers in calling for fair treatment and proper medical care for Khan, saying the cricketer-turned-politician deserves to be “looked after” for his contributions to Pakistan as both captain and Prime Minister.

Across Pakistan, PTI supporters have staged widespread protests , demanding transparency, protection, and proper treatment for Khan. The Shehbaz Sharif‑led government has denied claims of deliberate harm, insisting legal procedures are being followed.
