Ishan Kishan’s 270 Powers East Zone To Mammoth 708 In Duleep Trophy Final

Ishan Kishan produced a spectacular 270 as East Zone piled up a mammoth 708 all out against South Zone on the second day of the Duleep Trophy final in Chennai on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Kishan, batting through humid conditions, delivered a commanding display of red-ball batting that could strengthen his case for a return to the national Test setup. His marathon innings lasted 522 minutes and 334 balls, featuring 27 fours and seven sixes before he was eventually dismissed.

The left-hander had reached his first century in 122 balls on the opening day but took 148 balls to move from 100 to 200, deliberately slowing down to tire the bowlers and build a substantial total. He reached his double century from 270 balls, but then shifted gears dramatically, racing from 200 to 250 in only 31 balls.

South Zone's spinners bore the brunt of his assault. Kishan scored 94 runs off 100 balls against Shreyas Gopal, while Tripurana Vijay conceded 70 from 88 balls. Pulls and drives remained his most productive strokes as the batter repeatedly found gaps on a placid surface.

Kishan's effort came with three national selectors in attendance, adding significance to his performance. He narrowly missed joining the elite group of batters who have scored Duleep Trophy triple centuries, which includes Raman Lamba and Gagan Khoda.

He received excellent support from Kumar Kushagra, who struck his sixth first-class hundred, scoring 101 off 132 balls with eight fours and five sixes. Kishan and Kushagra added 230 runs for the fifth wicket, while Anukul Roy contributed 40 during a 140-run sixth-wicket partnership with Kishan.

South Zone's bowlers, including lead pacer Mohammed Siraj, struggled to make an impact on the flat pitch. Vijay eventually finished with four wickets for 180 runs.

Kishan was finally dismissed when he attempted another big shot against Vijay, ending a remarkable innings just short of a historic triple century. South Zone will begin its reply on the third day, with East Zone holding a commanding position after posting one of the final's biggest totals.
