Israel Warns India of Emerging Hybrid Warfare Threats, Doubts Pakistan’s Credibility
Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar has cast doubt on Pakistan’s credibility as a regional mediator , arguing that countries perceived to be sympathetic to radical groups cannot be considered reliable intermediaries in sensitive negotiations.
In an interview with PTI Videos, Azar said Pakistan’s involvement in mediation efforts requires caution, particularly when dealing with organizations accused of promoting extremism. He suggested that mediators who appear to legitimize radical actors risk complicating diplomatic efforts rather than advancing peace.
The ambassador also expressed concern over what he described as growing links between radical elements in South Asia and the Middle East . He alleged that leaders associated with Hamas have increased their engagement with Pakistan and Bangladesh in recent years, though he did not provide specific evidence for the claim.
Drawing parallels between Israel’s security challenges and broader regional trends, Azar warned that tactics used by militant groups in the Middle East could eventually affect other regions, including India’s neighbourhood . He pointed to forms of hybrid warfare , such as information manipulation, the use of human shields, and coordinated propaganda campaigns, as methods that could be replicated elsewhere.
Referring to Israel’s mandatory military service , the envoy stopped short of recommending a similar system for India. He acknowledged that each country must determine its own defence and recruitment policies based on its unique circumstances, while noting that conscription can foster civic responsibility and discipline among young citizens.
The remarks come amid heightened geopolitical tensions and evolving security concerns across West Asia. They also reflect the shifting diplomatic equations in West Asia , where questions of mediation, counterterrorism cooperation, and regional influence have become increasingly intertwined with broader strategic rivalries.
Azar’s comments underscore Israel’s efforts to draw international attention to the security threats it faces while highlighting the growing intersection between developments in West Asia and South Asia .
