India’s batting depth received another boost in the latest ICC rankings, with T20 captain Shreyas Iyer making a stunning jump to a career-best seventh place while ODI skipper Shubman Gill strengthened his hold on the top spot in the 50-over format.

Iyer climbed 18 places after his breathtaking unbeaten 102 off just 43 balls against the West Indies in the series opener in Lucknow on Tuesday. His innings, featuring 10 fours and six sixes, powered India to an eight-wicket victory and also propelled him to become the country’s third-highest ranked T20I batter.

India now have four batters inside the T20I top 10. Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma continue to occupy the first two positions, while Tilak Varma is ranked 10th. Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also made significant progress, moving up eight places to 46th.

West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford rose 10 places to 37th after his quick 56, while Pakistan’s Hasan Nawaz jumped an impressive 62 spots to 48th following his performances at the Asian Games.

There was also a change at the top of the T20I bowling rankings. Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan returned to No. 1 after Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed slipped from the summit following his performances in the Asian Games semifinals and final. India’s Axar Patel climbed 16 places to seventh after taking two wickets in each of his three matches during the week.

In the ODI rankings, Gill retained No. 1 after his extraordinary 223 not out against the West Indies in Guwahati. His second ODI double-century, which came during India’s successful run chase, earned him 25 rating points, taking him back to his career-best tally of 841 points.

Former India captain Virat Kohli slipped one place to third, while KL Rahul returned to the top 10 at No. 10 after his attacking century in the third ODI.
