YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has assured legal assistance and political support to farmers in the Amaravati region who are unwilling to part with their land for the proposed Greenfield capital project.

A delegation of farmers met Jagan on Tuesday, alleging that they were facing pressure from the state government for refusing to surrender their land. Listening to their grievances, the opposition leader promised that the YSRCP's legal team would stand by them in any disputes related to land acquisition .

Jagan questioned the government's move to seek additional land when, according to him, significant development has yet to take place on the land already pooled for the Amaravati project. He alleged that the push for further acquisition serves the interests of a select few rather than the broader public.

The former chief minister also renewed his advocacy for the proposed Mavigan corridor connecting Machilipatnam , Vijayawada and Guntur. He argued that the region's existing infrastructure including port, rail, road and air connectivity makes it a more practical and cost-effective option for large-scale development.

Criticizing the Amaravati model, Jagan claimed that the project would require enormous investment and a lengthy implementation period due to infrastructure challenges. He accused the ruling coalition of persisting with the plan despite these concerns, alleging that contractor-driven interests are influencing the government's approach.

The latest remarks add to the ongoing political debate over Andhra Pradesh's capital development strategy, with the ruling coalition and the opposition continuing to differ on land acquisition policies and the state's long-term growth vision.
