‘Jailer 2’ Screenings Halted at Canadian Theatres Over Technical Issues
Screenings of Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Jailer 2’ have been halted at York Cinemas in Canada from Wednesday due to technical issues involving the digital keys required to screen the film, the exhibitor said.
In a statement shared on Instagram, York Cinemas announced that the screenings would stop from October 21, 2026, despite the theatre chain having fulfilled its financial commitments and made the required payments for the film.
The exhibitor attributed the disruption to the non-availability of valid Key Delivery Messages (KDMs) from North American distributors Shloka Entertainments and Prathyangira Cinemas. These digital keys are essential for authorising the playback of encrypted films in theatres.
According to York Cinemas, the required KDMs had not been provided following the necessary authorisation from the film’s production company, Sun Pictures. Without the valid keys, the theatre chain said it was technically unable to continue screening the movie.
“We regret to inform you that Jailer 2 will no longer be screening at York Cinemas effective Wednesday, October 21, 2026,” the exhibitor said in its statement, adding that the situation was beyond its control.
York Cinemas also said it had made efforts to resolve the matter and continue the screenings but had not received the necessary authorisation. The theatre chain apologised to moviegoers for the disappointment and inconvenience caused, while thanking them for their patience and continued support.
As of Wednesday, the film’s North American distributors and producers had not issued a response to the exhibitor’s announcement.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, ‘Jailer 2’ reunites the filmmaker with Rajinikanth after their 2023 hit ‘Jailer’. Produced by Sun Pictures, the sequel was released worldwide on October 15, 2026.
The film features an ensemble cast, including S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa Menon. The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
