A routine traffic clearance ahead of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma's convoy has landed authorities in controversy after a 27-year-old momo vendor sustained severe burn injuries when her food cart was allegedly pushed by police despite her warning about boiling water .

The incident took place on June 19 near Mahal Road in Jagatpura, Jaipur , where Reshu Gupta , a BSc graduate and the sole earning member of her family, was running her roadside momo stall as usual. According to her family, police personnel arrived to clear the road for the Chief Minister's convoy and asked vendors to move their carts.

Family members allege that Gupta repeatedly warned the officers that her steamer contained boiling water and requested them not to move the cart abruptly. However, they claim the cart was pushed anyway, causing the steaming hot water to spill over her body.

The accident left Gupta with serious burns on her chest, stomach, shoulders, arms and thighs . She was rushed to a hospital, where she continues to receive treatment. Doctors have advised a lengthy recovery, leaving her unable to work at a time when her family depends entirely on her income.

The case has also raised questions over the handling of the incident. According to the family, an FIR was registered only on June 22 , three days after the accident, following repeated efforts to seek legal action. Police have since begun reviewing CCTV footage from the area as part of the investigation.

Authorities, however, have presented a different version of events. Police are examining whether officers physically pushed the cart or whether the accident occurred while it was being moved during the convoy arrangements. Officials say the investigation is ongoing and that the CCTV footage will help establish the sequence of events.

The incident has triggered public concern over the safety of street vendors during high security movements and renewed debate on whether crowd and traffic management for VIP convoys is being carried out with adequate care for ordinary citizens.

As the investigation continues, Reshu Gupta remains in hospital, recovering from injuries that have not only caused her immense physical pain but have also brought uncertainty to the livelihood of her family.
