Jaismine Rises to World No 1 as India’s Boxing Power Surges in Global Rankings
India’s presence in world boxing has reached new heights as reigning world champion Jaismine Lamboria rose to World No 1 in the women’s 57 kg category in the latest World Boxing rankings . In another strong showing, Asian Championships gold medallist Priya Ghanghas (60 kg) and Vishvanath Suresh (50 kg) entered the top three in their respective divisions, underlining India’s growing depth across weight classes.
India’s consistency was reflected across the board, with its boxers featuring in the top 10 in nine of the 10 women’s categories and eight of the 10 men’s divisions. The rankings highlight not just individual success but also a sustained national performance across levels.
In the women’s section, Minakshi continued to hold the World No 1 spot in the 48 kg category, while Preeti Pawar made a notable jump to third in the 54 kg division. Jaismine’s rise to the top comes on the back of her strong recent performances, including a silver medal at the Asian Championships earlier this year.
India’s medal-winning core further strengthened its global standing, with World Cup medallists Arundhati Choudhary (70 kg), Pooja Rani (80 kg) and Nupur (+80 kg) all securing second place in their respective categories. However, there were slight shifts as well, with two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen slipping to fourth in the 51 kg category, while Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain retained her seventh position in the 75 kg division.
On the men’s side, Sachin Siwach (60 kg) and Asian Games medallist Narender Berwal (90+ kg) broke into the top five , marking significant progress for India’s male contingent. World Cup gold medallist Hitesh Gulia (70 kg) moved to sixth , while Abhinash Jamwal (65 kg) held eighth position . Akash (75 kg) and Lokesh (85 kg) also entered the top 10 .
Overall, India’s boxing performance in the latest rankings paints a strong global picture. The country currently stands third in the world in terms of top 10 ranked athletes, while it is second in women’s boxing and fourth in the men’s category , reflecting both depth and consistency across divisions.
India’s presence beyond the top 10 is also notable, with several boxers continuing to close in on elite positions, signalling a widening talent pool and strong pipeline for future international competitions.
