Protests erupted in Jammu on Saturday as displaced residents from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and allied groups condemned the alleged killing of civilians across the Line of Control and demanded international intervention amid worsening unrest in the region.

Members of the BJP PoJK Refugee Cell and activists of SOS International gathered at the Jammu Press Club before marching towards the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh , raising slogans against Pakistan and calling for global attention to the situation.

The demonstrators alleged that more than 20 civilians had been killed in recent days during a sweeping security crackdown in PoK linked to protests by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) . However, multiple recent reports suggest the death toll may be significantly higher, with some estimates placing casualties between 20 and over 30 , and broader claims in circulation citing even higher figures amid ongoing clashes.

The unrest in PoK reportedly began after JAAC protests over economic grievances, including subsidised electricity, flour shortages, and political representation issues, escalated into violent confrontations following a government ban on the group. Subsequent clashes in several towns, including Rawalakot, were followed by reported shutdowns, arrests, and internet restrictions.

BJP activist Surinder Singh Gilli said Pakistan must stop repression of civilians and urged the United Nations and global rights organisations to intervene. He also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi , Defence Minister Rajnath Singh , and Home Minister Amit Shah to raise the issue internationally.

SOS International chairman Rajiv Chuni said India must move beyond symbolic resolutions on PoK and take stronger diplomatic and humanitarian steps. BJP leader Jahanzaib Sirwal also wrote to the Prime Minister urging more proactive engagement.
