Japanese ‘Clayface’ Posters Stir Buzz With Haunting Body-Horror Designs

New Japanese promotional posters for DC Studios’ “Clayface” are generating excitement among fans, with the striking artwork highlighting the film’s gruesome body-horror elements and the transformation of its central character.

One of the latest posters features actor Tom Rhys Harries’ Matt Hagen with his face appearing to melt and transform from a handsome human visage into the grotesque form associated with Clayface. The unsettling imagery has drawn attention online, with fans praising the Japanese designs for their distinctive horror aesthetic.

Another Japanese poster presents a similarly disturbing image of Hagen’s face breaking down into clay, reinforcing the film’s focus on physical transformation, identity and psychological horror. The artwork has prompted considerable discussion among DC fans, with several calling the designs particularly effective and visually memorable.

Directed by James Watkins, “Clayface” follows Matt Hagen, a Hollywood actor whose life changes after he is horribly disfigured. Desperate to restore his appearance and career, Hagen undergoes an experimental treatment. However, the procedure has devastating consequences, ultimately transforming him into the revenge-driven Clayface.

The screenplay has been written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, with Flanagan also credited with the story. The film stars Harries alongside Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan.

The promotional campaign appears to be emphasizing the movie’s body-horror identity, setting it apart from a conventional superhero production.
