Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi to Visit India for 16th Annual Summit from July 1

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will undertake a three-day official visit to India from July 1 to 3 to participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit , where both nations are expected to deepen cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, and defence .

The visit comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will mark Takaichi's first official visit to India since assuming office. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) , the summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to review the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest .

The annual summit is expected to focus on strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership , with discussions likely to cover economic collaboration, security cooperation, connectivity, and emerging regional challenges.

The visit follows Prime Minister Modi's trip to Tokyo in August 2025 for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit , underscoring the growing momentum in bilateral engagement between the two countries.

In a statement issued on Friday, the MEA said the upcoming summit reflects the shared commitment of India and Japan to further expand their longstanding partnership and reinforce cooperation in areas of strategic importance.

India and Japan have steadily enhanced ties in recent years, with both countries working closely on infrastructure development, defence collaboration, supply chain resilience, and initiatives aimed at promoting a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
