Jennifer Kupcho’s Stunning Finish Revives US Hopes As Solheim Cup Ends Day 2 At 8-8

Jennifer Kupcho produced one of the most dramatic finishes in Solheim Cup history, sinking two remarkable birdie putts on the final two holes to rescue a crucial point for the United States and leave the competition perfectly poised at 8-8 heading into Sunday’s singles.

The Americans appeared set to lose the final match of the day when Kupcho and Lindy Duncan were one down against Carlota Ciganda and Celine Boutier. But Kupcho changed everything on the 17th hole, rolling in an extraordinary 93-foot birdie putt from well off the back of the green.

With Ciganda and Boutier both inside 12 feet, the Americans looked destined to concede the hole. Instead, Kupcho’s long putt travelled down the slope and dropped into the cup, triggering wild celebrations from the US team.

She was not finished.

On the 18th, Kupcho calmly converted another birdie putt, this time from 25 feet, to complete a 1-up victory and secure a 3-1 US win in the four-ball session.

The result erased what could have been a damaging European advantage and ensured the teams remained locked at 8-8 after two days. The United States now needs 14 points to retain the trophy.

Kupcho’s performance also provided a major momentum boost after Europe had enjoyed a strong day, led by Sweden’s Maja Stark and Linn Grant, who remained unbeaten at 3-0-0.

Europe’s leading pairing of Lottie Woad and Charley Hull, however, has struggled badly. They have collected just half a point from four sessions, including two defeats on Saturday.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda also endured a difficult day, losing in the morning before being left out of the afternoon session. She enters Sunday’s singles with a 1-1-1 record.

Kupcho will face Ciganda again on Sunday, setting up an intriguing rematch as the Solheim Cup heads into its decisive final session.
