Jharkhand Tables ₹8,399 Crore Supplementary Budget Amid Opposition Uproar

The Jharkhand government on Friday presented a supplementary budget of ₹8,399 crore for the ongoing 2026-27 financial year in the state assembly, aiming to secure additional financial allocations for expenditure during the current fiscal.

The first supplementary budget of the year was tabled by Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore during proceedings in the Monsoon Session of the Assembly. The presentation took place amid noisy protests by opposition members, who raised allegations of irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted in the state and sought discussions on the issue.

The latest proposal comes months after the state government unveiled its annual budget of ₹1.58 lakh crore for the 2026-27 fiscal in February. The supplementary budget is intended to provide additional funding beyond the original budget estimates, enabling the government to meet evolving expenditure requirements and implement approved programmes during the financial year.

The Monsoon Session of the Jharkhand Assembly commenced on Thursday and is scheduled to continue until August 12. According to Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath, the session has five working days, during which members are expected to deliberate on legislative and financial matters.

Supplementary budgets are typically introduced when governments require additional financial resources that were either unforeseen or not adequately provided for in the original budget. They also allow departments to adjust spending priorities in response to changing administrative and developmental needs during the fiscal year.
