JioHotstar To Stream 'Toy Story 5' On September 23 As $1.14 Billion Hit Comes Home

The toys are back, and this time they have a very different rival to deal with. Disney and Pixar’s 'Toy Story 5' is now streaming on JioHotstar in India from September 23, giving fans another chance to reunite with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the gang from the comfort of home. The film is available in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, while international audiences can watch it on Disney+ on the same day.

Directed by Andrew Stanton and co-directed by Kenna Harris, 'Toy Story 5' arrived in cinemas on June 19 and has become the biggest-grossing instalment in the 31-year-old franchise. The film has now earned around $1.14 billion worldwide, including more than $480 million in North America and over $665 million internationally.

But unlike the earlier films, this adventure is not simply about toys trying to find their place in a changing world. Pixar has put technology itself at the centre of the story. The official premise describes the film as “Toy meets Tech”, with Bonnie’s toys facing a new challenge after a shiny new tablet called Lilypad enters her life. Voiced by Greta Lee, Lilypad has ideas of her own about what is best for Bonnie and quickly becomes a serious threat to traditional playtime.

One of the biggest changes this time is the spotlight on Jessie. Joan Cusack’s cowgirl toy gets a much larger role as she tries to keep Bonnie connected to the toys while the child becomes increasingly drawn towards technology. Reviews have highlighted Jessie’s expanded journey, with the character taking over much of the emotional centre of the sequel.

The film also brings back Woody and Buzz, making their reunion one of the attractions for longtime fans. Woody had left the group at the end of 'Toy Story 4' to help lost toys, but the new film brings him back into the story as the toys face their latest challenge.

Alongside the familiar characters, 'Toy Story 5' introduces several new tech-inspired toys. Conan O’Brien voices Smarty Pants, a toilet-training tech toy, while Craig Robinson voices Atlas, a talking GPS hippo. Shelby Rabara voices Snappy, a camera toy, while other new characters expand the film’s playful clash between old-school toys and new technology.

The returning voice cast includes Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack as Jessie, with Scarlett Spears voicing Bonnie. Pixar has also brought back Randy Newman to compose the score.

The film received another major pop-culture boost through Taylor Swift’s original song ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’, written and produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff and inspired by Jessie’s continuing journey.

For Indian viewers, the biggest attraction now is that the blockbuster is available in four languages on JioHotstar, making the latest chapter of Pixar’s beloved toy saga accessible to a much wider audience.
