J&K DIG reviews security at Tourist spots in Doda–Kishtwar–Ramban range

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shridhar Patil on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess and strengthen security arrangements at tourist destinations across the Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range of Jammu and Kashmir amid increasing tourist footfall, officials said.

The review assumes significance given the crucial role tourism plays in J&K’s economy . The sector supports thousands of livelihoods in hospitality, transport and handicrafts, and remains a key pillar of economic growth in the region. Any disruption to tourist activity directly impacts local businesses and employment.

Officials said the meeting focused on evaluating the existing security grid and ensuring strict implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) . Officers from the district police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) discussed enhancing access control, surveillance mechanisms and inter-agency coordination at key tourist locations.

The review comes in the backdrop of past security incidents, including the Pahalgam attack , which had affected tourist confidence and led to temporary restrictions at certain destinations. In response, authorities have intensified security audits, regulated access to vulnerable areas and increased deployment to ensure rapid response capability.

Emphasis was laid on updating contingency plans, conducting mock drills and maintaining high operational alertness. The DIG directed officers to implement the measures in a coordinated and time-bound manner to prevent any untoward incident and ensure a safe environment for visitors.

Officials said sustained security reviews are part of a broader strategy to safeguard tourists and reinforce confidence in Jammu and Kashmir as a secure travel destination.
